iPhone Gallery
By the time that John started taking pictures in the field using his iPhone, he had already progressed to taking 4×5 photographs, so phone photos were not a priority. The first shots on his iPhone date back to 2011 (included in these galleries and continuing through 2023), but it wasn’t until 2017 that there were more than a handful of shots per year from the field on his phone. Starting in 2017, the volume of field photos on his phone increased dramatically. He was particularly fond of the iPhone Panorama option.
The shots in these galleries are straight off John’s iPhone, with no editing other than what he did. They provide an adjunct to understanding what captured his eye in nature and his surroundings on his many photo missions, and give an insight into his choices of subject matter and his approach to composition. This is as close as you will come to taking one of those trips with him. So, grab your camera and DeLorme Gazetteers, buy some block ice and a couple of 12 packs of Safeway unflavored life-giving seltzer water, figure out your first stop for a green chile cheeseburger, and hit the road!
